Portrait Session Preparation

If you are looking for a non-traditional, lifestyle photographer I’m your girl! My style is not so much about me as it is about discovering the beauty of you. Throughout the years I have developed an eye for details that are often missed by traditional methods of photography. Capturing art is more than technical skills, it is also about instinct and creativity, both of which can only be gained through experience and raw talent.

Each of my sessions begin with a consultation by phone or e mail, which ever is more convenient for you. During the consultation we will discuss what your goals are for your session. It is important to establish your goals so that we can work through the session with creative freedom:) We will discuss clothing options, location, likes and dislikes in order to establish a firm foundation on which to build your session.

Once your goals are established and the date is set there are things that you can do to prepare for your session. I prefer to work on location, so you can scout out areas in your home (or weather permitting ~ outside) that you would like to include in your images.  Some ideas for you to consider are:

  • Your child’s nursery / bedroom
  • Your kitchen table (for newborns or small children)
  • Any room in the house with brightly painted walls (or pretty wall paper) and hardwood / laminate flooring. Brick and stone facades also work beautifully.
  • Any room in the house you have decorated and are proud of:)
  • Out door areas that you have great memories of / spend time at.

If you prefer more of a studio look this can be achieved easily through the use of different lighting techniques in a room with nice flooring, or if you don’t like your flooring we can use an area rug, favorite blanket, or a plain black backdrop that I will provide. You don’t need a studio setting to get spectacular images, you just need a spectacular photographer with working knowledge of how to manipulate light to achieve the end result:)

Once I arrive at the location of choice, we will further discuss any details necessary to a successful session, and then get to work . . . . which in my case is play!!!
