When I was invited to photograph the youth of the Flying Dust First Nations I had never heard of Dreams in Motion! Amazing and accomplished duo James Jones (2nd place winner of “So You Think You Can Dance Canada 2009) and Linsay Willier (2nd place winner of “Canada’s Next Top Model 2009) have combined their natural talents and vibrant personalities to teach our youth about the power of pursuing your dreams and living a healthy lifestyle. I have to say, what a wonderful and important issue to dedicate your life’s work to! Investing in our youth is never a wasted effort!
I didn’t get to sit in on the sessions, but heard it was a fantastic time for all! I was so impressed with the impact it seemed to have had in a very short time. All of the young people I had the privilege of working with were like seasoned pros! I enjoyed a few moments with James and Linsay and captured a few fun shots for them and learned a few techniques that professional models use when working. No wonder these kids all moved like they were on the runway! Well done James & Linsay!!
Check out some of the images I captured during our portrait sessions!

Throughout the years we have developed a family tradition of Valentine’s day photo sessions. It all started with the idea of having personalized Valentines for each of the kids. Friends and family love them so much we have kept up the tradition year after year.
This year is bittersweet for me. My oldest daughter is almost a teenager and I’m not sure how much longer she’ll humor me with this tradition! But this year we had out most fun session ever complete with hair and makeup. I don’t think it’ll be too hard to convince her to do a photo session next year, but I don’t think Valentine’s will be on the table.
I am amazed at the beauty of my kids each time I photograph them. I feel so blessed to have the ability to capture them throughout their growing years! These are my favorite images of Tamzen to date:) My precious oldest daughter. I hope you enjoy these as much as we do!

Ok, so it’s a girl and her horses. . . .
I thought it sounded more intriguing this way ~ LOL!
So anyways, on with my story:) Years ago I met Kristy in my salon when her Mom started coming in to me for services. Every couple of months Kristy would come in for services too. Kristy was one of those little girls that I knew would grow up to be an exceptional woman. She was respectful, smart and pretty! I loved seeing her whole family on a regular basis:)
Years went by, I left hairdressing and Kristy grew up and moved away from home to go to College. One day I saw her on Facebook and sent her a friend request, and since then have enjoyed seeing her updates and new pictures periodically. A couple of weeks ago Kristy contacted me about a special I was advertising and booked a session. I was so excited.
So last night I headed out to the farm and we spent an hour with Kristy and her horses. For part of the session we were by the main barn and corrals, and the rest we were at the old homestead barn all the while enjoying the evening light. I tell ya, just when I think I can’t love my job anymore, along comes another session that leaves me feeling so creatively fulfilled that I can hardly contain myself!! To be honest this summer has set a precedent for me in which EVERY session has filled me with pure joy and love for my work! Did I mention I love my job?? Yeah, well I do:) And here is why!
So without further delay, here are some images from our session! Enjoy:)

This is Kristy and Chip. He's a new horse that Kristy and her Dad have been working with this year. Kristy's mom Carol tells me that Chip has proven himself to be an exceptional team member:)

I love evening light. . . . . it creates the most yummy backlighting. I love the rainbow lens flair and relaxed feel of this image.

I envisioned this pose on the way out to the farm. The final image is even better than I pictured it! Is it just me or does she look like Salma Hayek???!

While we were shooting at the barn I heard thundering hooves coming our direction. I turned to see what the commotion was all about and saw these two beautiful creatures standing there expectantly watching us. I fell in love ♥

Misty is a magnificent creature if I ever did see one. She was raised by Kristy's Grandfather from a foal, and he taught her how to kiss:)

She is a gentle creature, with more character than I have ever seen in any animal. I felt a connection with this beautiful old girl.

Back to Kristy!! This was supposed to be her session before I got hijacked by the horses. LOL:) I saw the evening light here and had to get some last images in it, so we walked across part of the field until we reached a spot where it was just right.

On the way back to the truck Kristy was admiring the clouds with the pink highlights. Girl after my own heart I tell ya! I ♥ the clouds! So we took a couple final images with the beautiful pink highlighted clouds in the background. Feels like someone painted them and placed them there just for us:)
I’m so proud to see what a lovely young woman you have become Kristy (as if there was any doubt:)
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to photograph you and your beautiful horses.
It was a dream session for me! I hope you love the images as much as I do:)

Meadow Lake Graduation 2010
I’m quickly learning that personal attention and time is what it’s all about!! From the client consultation to the session, preparation is the most important key to great photographs!! After a long day in session out in Waterhen I headed back into town to do two sessions with Meadow Lake graduates Scott and Katie.I was really tired after a long day in the heat and bugs, but hit my second wind quite easily when I arrived at my first grad’s session location. Both graduates were so great to work with and looked awesome in their chosen attire. What a great day! I hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating:)
Scott
I started out my Meadow Lake sessions with Scott and his family. They were so smiley and happy, I could see how very proud there were of Scott and his accomplishment in completing Grade 12. As we finished the family and individual portion of the session it began to rain (perfect timing!) and we headed back into town to meet up with Scott’s gorgeous escort and a couple of friends. We had some fun at the hill capturing these friends hanging out together and then they headed off to celebrate!
Congratulations Scott on your grade 12 diploma. You have a great future ahead of you
Katie
I have watched Katie grow up over the years, and she has continued to intrigue me with her unique expression of her personality. She has grown from a cute little girl to a beautiful woman in a short time! Katie was really fun and easy to work with. Her style is among the best I’ve ever seen in being a full expression of who she is, from the GRAD 2010 shaved into the side of her head to her sneakers with her gown, she didn’t miss a single detail in showing the world who Katie is.
Katie, you have been through so much in your life already, but you have continued to grow and thrive and become a really beautiful woman inside and out! I’m so excited to hear about your adventures and where life takes you, cause I know you are going to touch lives in ways you can only imagine!
Congratulations and Thank You
for choosing me to document this important time in your lives!
I enjoyed working with each of you and your families:)

Waterhen Graduation
This last year God has blessed me so much:) This is the year I made two commitments, first to grow in my work through my relationship with God (He has been teaching me:) and second not to spend a bunch of money on advertising, but instead to lean on God and trust Him to bring me the business I need. He has been so faithful!!! I am amazed at the recommendations I have been receiving, and would like to thank everyone who has put my name out there!!! Waterhen Lake Graduation was a result of my good neighbor Dean’s recommendation:) I so appreciate the good word you have spoken that resulted in new work!!
Grad day was hectic but so fun! My daughter Tamzen accompanied me as I had the privilege of photographing the Grade 12′s at Waterhen Lake, and what a great bunch of young people! Everyone was so warm and friendly, and I felt so at home in their community (which to my shame I had never visited in my 35 years in Meadow Lake!!).
A Special Thank You to Donna who kept Tamzen and I company in between sessions! I’m looking forward to working with you this fall in your Bella Donna Session!! And a special Thank You to my beautiful assistant Tamzen
I love spending the day with you my girl:)
Chloe
My first graduate was Chloe, she has such a gentle spirit and a loveliness about her. I enjoyed capturing her million dollar smile! She seems like a really joyful person, full of beautiful smiles and laughter, the type of person you just want to be close to. Chloe has a large family and they all were so proud of her. It was wonderful to see everyone gather around her and support her in celebration of her accomplishment! You have a bright future ahead of you Chloe!! I believe you will touch many lives with your beautiful smile and kind heart:)
Sarah
Next I had Sarah, she was a little camera shy, but the camera loved her! Her shyness made her even more beautiful (if that were even possible:) I’m sure that Sarah could have a successful career in modeling, but I sense behind all that beauty is a brilliant young woman who wants to change the world. I have no doubt she will defeat any obstacle put in the way of her dreams. She is a brilliant artist and I hope to see her work on display someday. I want to encourage you Sarah to continue developing your artistic gifts – you have the talent to go far!!
Daryl
Next I had Daryl. I was so impressed watching the family gather around this incredible young woman who has worked so hard and achieved so much in her young life! My favorite moment was watching her husband adore her (see below:) Daryl glowed in her pretty white dress that was so perfect for her! Daryl, you have proven that you have the drive and ability to achieve all your dreams! Never let go of the love you share with your husband and children, it will sustain you in the hard times. You have a wonderful extended family to support you and the ambition to accomplish anything you set your mind to! YOU GO GIRL!
Brea
I have known Brea since she was a little girl. She has always been the apple of her mother’s eye and such a joy. When I walked into the room and saw her tall and slender I almost fell over! She was just a tiny girl the last time I saw her and now she towers over all 5’2″ of me (LOL). I loved watching Brea’s mom Linda just glow with pride over her daughter. I have long admired Linda as a strong woman and amazing mother, but that respect grew again as I watched her love on her daughter yesterday. Brea, your mom is an amazing woman, and I have a feeling that you have a lot of her character. You will go far and accomplish much!!!
Anthony
My last graduate in Waterhen was Anthony. I was so impressed with the warmth of this young man. Some young men are very shy and quiet when they are in session, but Anthony was confident and friendly and so great to work with! I could see that family is very important to him as we did several different sets with his family members making sure that he had images with some very important people in his life. Anthony, this world needs more men fully committed to family!I have no doubt that you are a man of integrity and someday you will make a wonderful husband and father:)
Congratulations Waterhen Graduates of 2010! Reach for the stars!!
You have so much potential and a great future ahead of you:)

So I finally had an opportunity to photograph my gorgeous cousin Colleen and her kids along with her brother Ryan. Such a good lookin bunch! We had a blast checking out locations and then finished off with some studio style portraits. There are so many fabulous images for me to edit through, but I wanted to post at least one image from the day.
This was my very favorite photo from the whole day:) Isn’t she beautiful??! For years she has been called my “twin” and seeing this gorgeous image makes me so very proud (not to mention flattered!) that so many people think we look so much a like! I love you guys – Colleen, Ivory, Ayden and Ryan! Thanks so much for giving me the honor of photographing you:)
